Nearly a years worth of quilting.

I cant believe its been a year since I updated this blog post. I have made so many quilts, been accepted into a few quilt shows, taught many classes for adults and kids and am still making more t shirt quilts.

Whilst doing my end of year taxes I figured I made about 70 t shirt quilts in 2015 and was surprised that was about 20 less than 2014. I remember feeling throughout the whole of 2015 that I was catching up. My lead time for a quilt got to about 4 months and now I am running about 2 months. I am just happy my customers are happy to wait.

I am currently working on some new classes to teach adults in my raw edge, collage applique technique. Have a kids camp at the end of June that I need to promote and make samples for. And I am looking at a new lecture as I am taking bookings for 2017.

This is me today working on another t shirt quilt that will be a graduation gift in May.

"Featured Quilter" experience

Just recently I was selected to be the "featured quilter" at my local quilt show here in the foothills in Auburn, CA. I belong to the Foothill Quilters Guild and it was quite an honor to be chosen. It was a fantastic weekend and I felt I had to come back down to earth after all the praise and love for my quilts. I did get visitors to sign my signature so blocks so hopefully soon I will make that quilt as a true memento of the occasion.

Handkerchiefs Vintage and New

Handkerchief quilts are my theme this week.  A customer sent me many old hankies to make into a couple of quilts for her.  Coincidentally I ordered some hankies from E Bay but these are knock-offs 'Made in China'. I am making a handkerchief quilt of my own to show at the Foothill Guilds Quilt show in March and have not enough "real" vintage ones so am using these new ones. I have been amazed at the difference between the two! The quality of the cotton in the real ones, the colours are so rich and patterns so varied.

Here the two unfinished quilt tops are I hanging on  my washing line. Can you tell which is the the vintage one?

The vintage quilt is more vibrant and the patterns more varied and this one I made straight so I didn't cut up any of the hankies. The new vintage hankie quilt I made en-pointe for a different look.
