Close up of Keith Urban fan shirt

Keith Urban in a Quilt

May 28, 2014

Using about 12 Keith Urban concert T shirts, I snipped and chopped and by adding co-orinating colored fabrics I came up with this snuggly balnket. My customer Jessica must be a huge fan to have such a  collection of shirts and was happy to have them made into this quilt. On the back I used a soft turquoise blue plaid flannel fabric. Such a fun quilt.

I have been sewing all my life, working for Laura Ashley in Wales and for an interior design business in Cheshire, England. Moving to California I discovered quilting and began designing and making art quilts. As a quilt artist my quilts are mainly pictorial using a raw edge, applique technique incorporating hand dyed and painted fabrics.

As you will see I love to make art quilts and keep my creative juices flowing! I make work for juried exhibitions and also make samples for new classes.  Again in 2020 I intend on spending more time on my art quilting, prepping for classes etc. My intention is to USE UP supplies, fabric, batting and more from my stash and not purchase fabric for ME. Quilts that are ordered I will purchase fabric and supplies for them.

I travel and teach to quilt guilds and quilt shops around the USA giving lectures and teaching a variety of classes. My most popular class is Pet Portraits Fabric Collage. I belong to SAQA, Mountain Art Quilters and my local Foothill Quilters Guild. I am also part of Artistic Alchemy and we host an annual retreat at Zephyr Point Lake Tahoe very September

I teach at the International Quilt show in Houston, Craft Napa and the Dubai International Quilt Show February 2020.

Feel free to contact me if you are interested in me teaching to for you.

When I have time I translate this unique talent into my custom work. My t shirt quilts are different to others out there as I bring more color, pattern and fabrics into them for a unique look and I also individually add a lot of unique free motion quilting to each one. I use my sewing and artistic skills by combining the shirts with other textile memory items into one quilt.

My shop on Etsy.com is called Quilts from Clothes and I am very happy to take orders through this website. My turnaround time varies throughout the year with peeks for Christmas and Graduation season, so bear this in mind when you place your order. I quote about 3-4 months but will always work to any deadline date or occasion.
