End of the Year Summary 2017

The end of the year is here and its good to summarize my 2017 accomplishments. How many t-shirt quits versus art quilts I made, how many  quilts got accepted into exhibits and what teaching and lecturing I did.

Merman, The Vulnerable Giraffe 91" x 71"

Melman was the largest art quilt I made. It was exhibited at IQF in Houston in November but didn't sell. I offered half the proceeds to GCF the Giraffe Conservation Foundation so eventually I will donate it to them as a fundraiser. I made 8 smaller art quilts, my SAQA donation quilt, a couple of class samples and also 8 Pet Portrait quilts, all dogs around 24" size.

Cosmos 20" x 20"

I taught my  2-day Pet Portrait class 4 times once to the Pine Tree Quilt Guild and worked on developing a 1 day version of this class that will work better for teaching to guilds and at quilt shows in 2018. I am currently working on some smaller donation pet quilts for the Craft Napa Stay Pawsitive fundraiser in early January.

I still have my Etsy shop Quilts from Clothes and did find I had fewer views, inquiries and orders than in previous years. I'm not sure if this is due to the changes Etsy has made since going public and looking to get more commercial but I still had plenty of work to keep me busy and my wait time was on average about 3 months.

These are a few of the 60 quilts that I made for customers all over the USA. 47 of these were T-shirt quilts, 3 neck tie quilts, 2 handkerchief quilts, 1 small anniversary wall hanging and 7 art quilt blankets of the same image. Going into 2018 I have 5 quilts waiting to be made.

Mount Shasta 50" x 64"

I helped design and write the pattern for the Whistlestop Quilt Shop's 2017 Row by Row for 'On the Go'. The Opportunity quilt for Foothill Quilt Guild was completed and was presented at the guilds annual quilt show in Auburn in April. It won Best use of Color for that show and it also won Peoples Choice award at the Nevada County Fair.

Here I am with a few of the ladies that helped me work and complete this quilt.

In January I had my 'Bon Voyage' quilt accepted into the SAQA Nebraska Exhibit Passages and it will be traveling with this exhibit into 2019.  Marley the dog was accepted into Road to California January 2018. For MAQ Mountain Art Quilters I made Silent Spring for their annual challenge and plan on nearing this is shows next year.

Finally I got to travel more around Northern California talking about my work and teaching classes to guilds. I spent a fun weekend away exploring Clearlake. Other places I visited were Chester, Sutter Creek, Elk Grove, Grass Valley and Fairfield. Hopefully I will continue to explore further a field in 2018

My goal again is to teach and blog more and expand my social media reach. Thanks to all my customers, students and supporters of my work.
